Awww, such a good 'daddy' he is. I hope that they are both blessed with quite the little brood, since they are so diligent now.

Every morning when we wake up we look out the window to check if Dad and baby are going walkies together! So far so good, its a cute little thing and just
amazing how Dad is so good with it.
However Mum is STILL Sitting on the nest - she got up brielfy so dashed over to see and 8 hUGE EGGS In the nest. I have left them alone - but I dont think she should be sitting still as pretty sure they are infertile...but it would be awful if they were not....I wonder if she will realise they are infertile - I think nature is the best answer to that and wait and see.. |

Yes Bell, the momma's can generally tell if the eggs are viable or not. When she is good and sure the babies aren't going to hatch, she will walk away
from the nest for good.

I love that picture Bell. It is too cute. Just shows you how small they are and how BIG they end up.

I have a lovely view of the pond from the kitchen sink, and as I was washing dishes I saw Mr Goose run as fast as he could, neck outstretched, and baby left
behind. I could not think what would possess him to leave little one alone on the pond, but then I saw he was rushing to meet Mrs Goose, who had left her nest
for a feed and drink. It is quite wonderful to see such devotion to each other in the bird world, he rubbed his neck against hers, and was absolutely rapt to
see her. She inspected baby, and then all 3 went for a swim on the pond, then she went back to the creek to sit on her nest
...he is now back to babysitting! Its curious to know if this happens with
all geese if just one gosling hatched out of 10 eggs, does Mum just go on sitting and sitting on the ones which have not hatched....I really do think they are
sterile cause its nearly 2 months she has been sittintg...but I will wait until the end of the month, and then see if she is STILL on the nest~!

Might want to candle them when she gets off them again. You have to remember, she laid those eggs one at a time, one day at a time, until she went broody.
So...technically, they are all different ages and take more time to hatch out...right???????? I don't know, just grasping at straws for her. I so want her
to have a huge family after all the effort she has put into it.

Cluckerz wrote: No Deb. Incubation dosn't start until she starts sitting, regardless of when the eggs are laid. The plan is to lay a clutch and then sit...incubation begins and they all hatch together....more or less. Allan x |

Well after 2 months of sitting - when she got off the nest yesterday I removed the last 2 eggs - and they were sterile -UGH - you could tell they were bad even
when not broken.
Now there is a lovely little family of 3, with Dad and Mum taking baby for swims and strolls around the pond - a very happy sight! |
